"Thirsty for Beauty. Passionates are everywhere"

National Museum in Warsaw

Al. Jerozolimskie 3, 00-495 Warsaw / Poland

Oskar Zięta's mirrors with artistic intervention at the charity auction of the Friends of the National Museum in Warsaw Association organized for the benefit of the Warsaw museum.

The opening of the exhibition will take place October 18, 2024 at the Desa Unicum auction house at 6:30 p.m.

3rd Charity Dinner Desiring Beauty and the auction will begin on October 21, 2024 at the National Museum in Warsaw.

Is it pure or applied art?

The Association "Friends of the National Museum in Warsaw" organizes charity events. Renowned artists are involved in this, and have prepared special works for the auction. It has become a young, but already common, rule that these works break the traditional division into pure art and applied art.

Art blew in metal

The focus of this year's auction "Thirsty for Beauty. Enthusiasts are everywhere" will be objects of double value. These are Tafla and Oko mirrors made of blown steel, made using the unique FiDU technology by Oskar Zięta, whose works are included in the collections of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and MoMA in New York, among others.

Reflective interpretations

Thanks to the artistic interventions of Karolina Bielawska, Krzysztof Gil, Marcin Janusz, Borys Kudlicki, Angelika Markul, Paulina Stasik, Małgorzata Szymankiewicz, Martyna Ścibior, and Mariusz Tarkawian, although they still reflect their surroundings, these objects have gained an additional aesthetic and semantic layer.

Self-reflections, self-reflected

These phenomenal, thought-provoking works encourage us to discover not only our self-portrait but also the portrait of our era. Just as the heroes of the iconic works of art from the 19th Century Gallery at the National Museum in Warsaw do in the photographs of Ernest Wińczyk.

Will our collections remain private, or will we start co-creating the resources of the national heritage together? Will we let our passion die with us, or will we let it last - so that it serves others in the future? Will someone remember us, like Korwin-Milewski, as enthusiasts thirsty for beauty? What self-portrait do we want to leave behind? We believe that by looking into the surfaces of the prepared works, you will discover not only your own self-portrait, but also the self-portrait of our times" - comments Małgorzata Wandzel, Vice-President of the Friends of the National Museum Association
"Those thirsty for beauty are everywhere. And enthusiasts too. This year's charity auction of the Friends of the National Museum is a celebration of these enthusiasts, therefore, inspired by the figure of Ignacy Korwin-Milewski - we want to go with you to the other side of the mirror of time and think together about the shape of what we will leave behind for posterity?

Creation for good

The opening of the exhibition of Oskar Zięta's artistically reinterpreted mirrors will take place on October 18, 2024 at the Desa Unicum auction house at 6:30 p.m., and the 3rd Charity Dinner Desiring Beauty and the auction will begin on October 21, 2024 at the National Museum in Warsaw.

You can bid during the dinner and online via the Desa Unicum application and the Artinfo.pl portal. The auction starts at 9:15 p.m. The proceeds from the event will be used to support the "Self-portraits" project, which aims to develop the collection of contemporary art and promote young, talented artists.
